Per Billeskov Krøldrup (born July 31, 1979 in Farsø ) is a Danish football player .

Club career

Krøldrup began his career in the youth of his home club Farsø Ullits . His first career leap followed in 1994 when he switched to Aalborg Chang's youth. At the small Aalborg club he matured unnoticed by all Danish youth selections to become a defensive talent, before he was signed by the then Danish second division club B.93 Copenhagen in 1998 at the age of 18 .

At the traditional Copenhagen training club, he surprisingly gained a regular place in central defense straight away and played a strong debut season. With 39 goals conceded, B93 had the second best defense in the league, which the team owed in large part to its strong performances. Together with David Rasmussen , he was considered to be the discovery of the season. In the following season he was already an indispensable member of the team and at the age of 19 was considered the league's youngest defense organizer. In addition to his strong defensive game, he also impressed with five goals this season on the offensive, whereupon he became a coveted transfer share. After his contract expired during the summer transition period, he decided to move to Italy to Udinese Calcio .

Actually planned as a perspective player for the youth team, he came under coach Luciano Spalletti already in his debut season to a total of ten league appearances with a goal is scored in the Serie A . In the following season he was pushed by Spalletti and installed alongside veteran Roberto Néstor Sensini as a regular central defender. The back four with Mirko Pieri and Marek Jankulovski in the outer positions then developed into the showpiece of the team, with Krøldrup ostensibly playing an ultra-defensive part and almost exclusively neutralizing the opposing star striker.

In the 2004/05 season , Udinese was able to set accents on the offensive thanks to his storm duo Iaquinta / Di Michele and was able to establish himself in the top third of the table. With fourth place in the table, the club managed to qualify for the Champions League and was considered one of the positive surprise teams of the season. In the meantime, Krøldrup had matured into a seasoned Serie A defender and was able to choose from several contract offers from larger clubs.

The traditional Liverpool club Everton FC was then awarded the contract for almost seven million euros. At the Toffees he was scheduled as a regular player to replace the aging David Weir . Even before his first competition game for Everton, however, he seriously injured his groin and was out for a long time for the first time. It wasn't until December 26, 2005 that he made his debut for Everton in the Premier League against Aston Villa . Everton lost 4-0, the fourth-highest away defeat in the club's history. Krøldrup, who had formed the central defense of the Toffees with Joseph Yobo , was completely overwhelmed and the worst player on his team. This was followed by a media execution of the player after the game. This meant that his career in Liverpool was as good as over after just one game. Krøldrup, like the club, then pushed for a move, which took place during the winter break when he moved back to Italy for Fiorentina for almost four million euros . Krøldrup had only 147 minutes of play in his six months at Everton and was voted the worst Premier League transfer of all time by the Times due to his high transfer fee .

Back in Italy, he regained the status of regular player under coach Cesare Prandelli and was able to build on his previous performances. Since then, he has played with Fiorentina in the upper third of the table in Serie A and is considered one of the strongest duels in the league. In the 2007/08 season , he and Tomáš Ujfaluši formed the league's strongest center-back duo when Florence only conceded 31 goals. In the 2008/09 and 2009/10 seasons he played with the Tuscans in the UEFA Champions League . In the 2009/10 season he met once (against FC Bayern ). On May 17, 2010, he extended his expiring contract until 2012. He was only used in 19 missions in the 2010/11 season. In the 2011/12 season, Krøldrup did not play in a single game, also due to injuries. His contract was not renewed.

In March 2013, the clubless player was committed by the relegation-threatened Italian first division club Delfino Pescara 1936 . In the 2013/14 season he played in the 1st Portuguese League for SC Olhanense , which was relegated at the end of the season. After the season he was without a club.

National team

Krøldrup is considered a late starter on the international level for Denmark as he was not called up in any of his country's youth teams. He was already a regular at Udinese when he made his debut on February 18, 2004 in a 0-1 away win in the friendly against Turkey in the Danish national football team. Four more friendlies followed before he was surprisingly nominated for Denmark's final squad for the 2004 European Football Championship . In the course of the tournament, however, he was the only field player next to Thomas Kahlenberg who was not used.

With the exception of a six-month injury and form-related break during his stay at Everton, he has been an unrestricted regular player in the Danish central defense ever since.

In 2010 he took part in the World Cup in South Africa , but remained goalless.

Others

With his two transfers from Udinese to Everton and back to Italy to Florence, he indirectly became the savior of his youth club Aalborg Chang. This had slipped into bankruptcy at the end of the 2004 season and was about to be dissolved. Due to the high transfer fees that changed clubs on both transfers from Krøldrup, Chang also received high training compensation twice , which allowed the club to continue to exist.
