Thomas Kahlenberg (born March 20, 1983 in Hvidovre ) is a former Danish football player .

Career

society

Thomas Kahlenberg had played in his youth for the lower class Danish football club Hvidovre IF before he moved to Brøndby IF at the age of 15 . Here the midfielder played in the various youth teams and made his Super League debut against FC Copenhagen on May 12, 2002 , after his previous youth coach Tom Køhlert had taken over the management of the first team shortly before. With this use on the last day of the 2001/02 season Kahlenberg belonged to the team that was Danish champions.

Kahlenberg played three more seasons for Brøndby and won the Danish championship for the second time in his final 2004/05 season. The club also won the Danish Cup this season. Kahlenberg was his team's top scorer with 13 goals. In the summer of 2005 he went to the French Ligue 1 club AJ Auxerre , where he signed a four-year contract. There he was able to prevail and formed the midfield together with Kanga Akalé , Benoît Cheyrou and Philippe Violeau . As the only field player, he completed all 38 league games. In the following four years he was a permanent service provider of the AJ. His best placement with AJ Auxerre was sixth in 2005/06.

For the 2009/10 season Kahlenberg moved to the then German champions VfL Wolfsburg and signed a four-year contract. He started his first season, however, with hip problems, so that he was only used on the 11th matchday for the first time. Even after that he was only a substitute and had a total of twelve missions in which he did not score a goal. In the following year he was on the starting line-up seven times in the first half of the season and scored his first goal in the Bundesliga on October 2, 2010 on matchday 7 in a 1-1 draw against Borussia Mönchengladbach . But after the club slipped into the table cellar and there were coach changes, the new trainers no longer relied on him in the relegation battle. So there were no more than 14 season games in his second year.

In the winter break of the 2011/12 season, VfL Wolfsburg Kahlenberg loaned to the French first division club FC Évian Thonon Gaillard until the end of the season ; His compatriots and national team colleagues Daniel Wass , Stephan Andersen and Christian Poulsen also played there . For the 2012/13 season Kahlenberg returned to Wolfsburg, but could not prevail neither under Felix Magath nor under Lorenz-Günther Köstner and Dieter Hecking . After the season he left the club after his contract expired.

On August 21, 2013, Kahlenberg returned to Brøndby IF. He signed a four-year contract until June 30, 2017. This is where the midfielder ended his active career.

National team

Kahlenberg played in Denmark's U-17 and U-19 national teams before making his U-21 international debut on October 11, 2002 in the European Championship qualifier against Luxembourg in Farum . After successfully qualifying, he took part with the Danish U-21 team in the U-21 European Football Championship , where he scored three goals in the three preliminary round games, but could not prevent his team from being eliminated. In total, he played 26 games in which he scored 10 goals.

Half a year after his U-21 debut, Kahlenberg played for the senior national team for the first time when he came on for Thomas Gravesen in the 76th minute of the friendly against Ukraine on April 30, 2003 . Kahlenberg was also the youngest member of Denmark's team at the 2004 European Football Championship , where he was not used.
