Thomas Gravesen (born March 11, 1976 in Vejle ) is a former Danish football player .

societies

Vejle BK

Thomas Gravesen received his first professional contract in 1994 with his home club Vejle BK , for which he had also played in the youth department.

Hamburger SV

In 1997 , the strong defensive midfielder moved to the German club Hamburger SV and quickly became one of the club's key players. During this time he played 74 Bundesliga games and scored six goals. Because of his often humorous nature, he was nicknamed the Humörbombe by fans .

Everton FC

After the EM 2000 he moved to the English Premier League for Everton FC . Here he was the outstanding player personality until the winter break of the 2004/05 season , because although the bald midfielder was never particularly technically gifted, he played his way into the hearts of the fans through his tireless efforts.

real Madrid

The move in January 2005 to the star ensemble of Real Madrid came as a surprise, as the “worker” Gravesen didn't seem to fit into a team with stars like David Beckham , Luís Figo or Ronaldo . However, the team seemed to lack a player with his abilities and so he quickly became a regular here too.

In the Spanish media and by the fans, however, he was ridiculed for his brutal style of play and lack of communication skills. The Spanish television station Cuatro even dedicated its own comedy series "El Mundo de Gravesen" to the tough defensive Holzer. After a physical attack against his teammate Robinho in a training session, Gravesen was not taken to the preparation camp for the coming season in August 2006 and banned from the squad.

Celtic Glasgow

In the same month Gravesen signed a three-year contract with Celtic Glasgow . With the club he was Scottish champion in 2007. On July 24, 2007 Gravesen was loaned to his old club, Everton FC. This contract was not renewed and after returning in summer 2008, he parted ways with Celtic on August 18, 2008.

On January 27, 2009 Gravesen ended his career after half a year without a club.

National team

On February 14, 1995 Gravesen played for the first time for the Danish U-19 national team when he was in the starting line-up in the 1-0 win against Portugal and played through the entire 90 minutes. He made his last international match on October 18, 1995, when he played in a 2-0 draw against France. In that game, Gravesen was also substituted for Kenny Frandsen . There were three missions in total.

On January 27, 1996 Gravesen played for the first time in the jersey of the Danish U-21 . Gravesen was in the starting eleven in the 3-2 draw against Chile and was substituted for Jacob Juhl during the game . Gravesen was also used in qualifying for the U-21 European Football Championship in 1998 . However, qualification was missed. Gravesen made his last game for the U-21s on October 10, 1997, when he played in the 3-2 win against Greece and played through for over 90 minutes. In that game he also scored his last of four goals. In the U-21 he came to eleven missions.

For Denmark ( senior national team ) he played at the European Championships in 2000 and 2004 and at the 2002 World Cup . Since his debut on August 19, 1998 Gravesen has played 66 games for his country. In September 2006 he announced his resignation from the national team.

Personal

Gravesen was in a relationship with the Czech model Kamila Persse (* 1979) from 2009 to 2018 . His younger brother Peter (* 1979) also played football actively, but never in the Danish national football team .
