Stavnsholtkirken

Farum [ ˈfɑːʀom ] is a Danish town in the municipality of Furesø , Hovedstaden region with 20,345 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020).

It is located 20 km northwest of the capital Copenhagen and can be reached from there by S-Bahn and via a motorway connection ( Hillerødmotorvejen 16 ) in 30 to 40 minutes.

Stavnsholt Kirke , built in 1980/81 according to designs by Johan Otto von Spreckelsen , is located in the Stavnsholt district, which is now integrated into the city : the façades are clinkered with yellow brick, and the diagonally cut upper corners of the room are striking in the cube-shaped interior. The altar, baptismal font and pulpit were made of Carrara marble : the three stones could be joined according to their shape.

The approximately 20 hectare non-profit residential complex Farum Midtpunkt consists of closely spaced terrace buildings. Erected between 1970 and 1974, the ensemble attracted a lot of attention due to the choice of untraditional materials, the planning of spaces for community activities and the systematic separation of pedestrian and car traffic. In the 1990s, the quarter had to fight against increasing social imbalance ( urban ghettoization ).

In 2002, the then mayor Peter Brixtofte was at the center of a financial scandal. Due to the construction of oversized sports facilities, Farum was heavily in debt after his tenure. One of the remnants of his aggressive urban development policy is the Farum Park football arena , home of the Danish first division football club FC Nordsjælland .

The passage grave of Farum (also called Grettes Høj or Gretteshøj) is located southwest of the village, not far from Farum Sø (lake).
