List of motorways in Denmark
In contrast to other nations, the motorways in Denmark do not have a uniform "A ..." designation, but instead take up the street names of the previous main traffic arteries. First and foremost, these were European roads and primary routes . The Danish motorways were planned in the 1960s and built from 1972.
Danish motorways are usually four lanes, rarely six lanes. In Zealand, especially in the greater Copenhagen area, there are motorways with up to ten lanes (for example the Køge Bugt Motorvejen ). The maximum speed on Danish motorways is 130 km / h, but in the greater Copenhagen area the speed is regulated to 110 km / h (lower on shorter routes).
The E 45 from Ålborg to Frederikshavn was opened to traffic in 2000. In 2004 the E 20 from Esbjerg to Kolding was completely completed. In the same year, Hirtshals was connected to the E 39 . The expansion of the Danish motorway network is ongoing.
There are ring roads in the Copenhagen area; these are motorway-like routes, but they are more similar to a German federal highway.
The E 20 is the longest motorway in Denmark and runs in a west-east direction from Esbjerg to Malmö (Sweden). The E 45, which runs in Schleswig-Holstein as federal motorway 7 , leads to Germany.
A planned motorway is to be built as a tunnel through the Fehmarnbelt so that the Hamburg metropolitan region is better connected to the Scandinavian road network and the travel time from Hamburg to Denmark and Sweden is greatly reduced ( fixed Fehmarnbelt crossing ).
Vejdirektoratet is responsible for the technical implementation and planning of the motorways . The tasks of this office, which is subordinate to the Danish Ministry of Transport, also include the repair and renewal of the roadways.
