Kongens Lyngby or just Lyngby is the main town in the Lyngby-Taarbæk municipality in the north of Copenhagen . The place with its 11,232 inhabitants (as of 2009) is particularly known for its football club Lyngby BK and among seafarers as the location of Lyngby Radio , the only Danish coastal radio station . Lyngby is the seat of Denmark's Technical University (Danmarks Tekniske Universitet) .

History and outstanding buildings

The place was founded in the Viking Age between 800 and 1050. In 1150 the place got a church , which was built with red bricks in Romanesque style.

The royal Sorgenfri Castle was built in 1702 with large gardens. Marienborg , a spacious manor house, has served the Danish Prime Minister as a summer residence since 1962.

The open-air museum of the Danish National Museum Frilandsmuseet ved Sorgenfri extends over a large area in the city.
