Ryan International Airlines was an American charter airline based in Rockford .

history

Ryan International's history dates back to 1968 when Ronald D. Ryan began as chief pilot at Jack P. DeBoer Associates. The company founded DeBoer Aviation in 1972. In 1975 Ron Ryan and George Ablah took over DeBoer Aviation equally and renamed it Ryan Aviation Corporation (RAC). The company dealt as an air base operator with refueling and maintenance services. In 1981 flight operations began as a cargo charter company and in 1983 as a passenger airline under the name Ryan International Airlines.

On 30 June 1986 Ryan Aviation and Ryan International Airlines was approved by the PHH Group, Inc ., A company listed on the New York Stock Exchange, the company purchased and PHH-Air Inc . renamed.

On June 30, 1988, Ron Ryan bought back the flight base operations at Wichita Mid-Continent Airport from the PHH Group with its refueling operations, aircraft maintenance, hangar and office rentals. The operation was renamed again in Ryan Aviation Corporation .

On January 30, 1989, PHH-Air was bought back by Ron Ryan and renamed Ryan International Airlines. It began with flights for the US Postal Service and as a subcontractor for Emery Worldwide Airlines . In 1992 flight operations began in the South Pacific with cargo to Guam , Saipan and the surrounding islands.

Between 2003 and 2004 Ryan International flew on a scheduled service for AirTran from Atlanta to the US West Coast. In 2006 the headquarters were relocated from Wichita to Rockford, Illinois. Most recently, Ryan International flew exclusively on behalf of the US military.

In March 2012, Ryan International filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy , and in January 2013 it finally ceased operations.
