About this picture

The region of Hovedstaden ( German : capital region) in Denmark includes the north-east of Zealand with the capital Copenhagen and other municipalities as well as the island of Bornholm . The administrative seat is Hillerød . Without Bornholm , the region has 1,806,524 (as of January 1, 2020) inhabitants on 1,970.6 km², which is an average of 916.7 inhabitants per km².

More than a fifth of the total Danish population lives in the Copenhagen metropolitan area alone.

The Hovedstaden region is about twice as badly affected by the corona pandemic in Denmark as Denmark as a whole (table here ).

The regions were created in 2007 by the Danish Parliament . With the simultaneous dissolution of the previous districts (Danish amtskommune ), they form the middle level between the municipalities and the state central administration ( states ).

In the Hovedstaden region, the former districts of Københavns Amt and Frederiksborg Amt as well as the municipalities of Copenhagen , Frederiksberg and Bornholm were absorbed .

At the same time, the area of the region was statistically divided into four Landsdele : Landsdel Byen København, Landsdel Københavns omegn, Landsdel Nordsjælland and Landsdel Bornholm .

There are 29 municipalities in the Hovedstaden region:
