The region of Hovedstaden ( German : capital region) in Denmark includes the north-east of Zealand with the capital Copenhagen and other municipalities as well as the island of Bornholm . The administrative seat is Hillerød . Without Bornholm , the region has 1,806,524 (as of January 1, 2020) inhabitants on 1,970.6 km², which is an average of 916.7 inhabitants per km².
More than a fifth of the total Danish population lives in the Copenhagen metropolitan area alone.
The Hovedstaden region is about twice as badly affected by the corona pandemic in Denmark as Denmark as a whole (table here ).
Emergence
The regions were created in 2007 by the Danish Parliament . With the simultaneous dissolution of the previous districts (Danish amtskommune ), they form the middle level between the municipalities and the state central administration ( states ).
In the Hovedstaden region, the former districts of Københavns Amt and Frederiksborg Amt as well as the municipalities of Copenhagen , Frederiksberg and Bornholm were absorbed .
At the same time, the area of the region was statistically divided into four Landsdele : Landsdel Byen København, Landsdel Københavns omegn, Landsdel Nordsjælland and Landsdel Bornholm .

Regional Council
The current legislative period began on January 1, 2018. The Social Democrat Sophie Hæstorp Andersen has been the chairman since 2014 . The 41 mandates were distributed as follows:
economy
In comparison with the gross domestic product of the European Union, expressed in purchasing power standards , the region achieved an index of 163 (EU-25: 100) in 2015, significantly higher than the Danish average of 127 and one of the highest values in the EU. Overall, a GDP of 109.6 billion euros was generated, which was almost 40% of the Danish economic output.
In 2017 the unemployment rate was 6.1%.
