The region Midtjylland ( German  region Central Jutland ) in Denmark comprises the central part of Jutland . The region is inhabited on an area of ​​13,005.8 km² by 1,326,340 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020). The capital is Viborg .

Emergence

The regions were created in 2007 by the Danish Parliament. With the simultaneous dissolution of the previous districts (Danish amtskommune ), they form the middle level between the municipalities and the state central administration ( states ).

Geographically, Region Midtjylland covers the former districts of Ringkjøbing Amt and Århus Amt (except for large parts of Mariager Kommune , today Region Nordjylland ), the south-eastern part of Viborg Amt (the rest of Region Nordjylland), the former municipalities of Brædstrup Kommune , Gedved Kommune , Juelsminde Kommune , Nørre-Snede Municipality , Tørring-Uldum Municipality and Hedensted Municipality and Horsens Municipality in Vejle County .

At the same time, the area of ​​the region was statistically divided into the two Landsdele Vestjylland and Østjylland.
