The FC Midtjylland is a Danish football club . It emerged in 1999 from the merger of the 1st teams from Herning Fremad (founded in 1918) and Ikast FS (founded in 1935).
history
The clubs Herning Fremad and Ikast FS , from whose teams the first team of FC Midtjylland was formed, continue to exist and maintain their own youth teams. This was a continuation of a concept practiced especially in Denmark, which should enable smaller clubs to establish themselves economically and sportily in the top division (see also FC Copenhagen , FC Nordsjælland ).
The club logo is adorned with the stylized head of a wolf . Although there have been no wild wolves in Denmark for more than 200 years, the wolf was chosen as a symbol because wolves were very common in the area around today's cities of Herning and Ikast . Hence the nickname of the team is Ulvene ("The Wolves").
At the end of the 1999/2000 season, the first after the club was founded, FC Midtjylland became champions of the 1st division (second highest division) and rose to the SAS league . In 2003 and 2005 Midtjylland reached the final of the Danish Football Cup , but lost both times to Brøndby IF . In 2007 and 2008 they were runner-up in the league. In 2010 and 2011, Midtjylland lost two more cup finals, both times against FC Nordsjælland . In 2015 the club won the Danish championship for the first time.
