Erik Sergeivich Sviatchenko ( Ukrainian Ерік Сергійович Святченко Erik Serhijowitsch Svyatchenko , born October 4, 1991 in Viborg , Denmark ) is a Danish football player . He is under contract with the Danish first division club FC Midtjylland and is a Danish national player .

Club career

The son of Ukrainian parents grew up in Viborg and started playing football at Viborg FF . He came to FC Midtjylland's youth academy through Søndermarken IK , Houlkær IF and FK Viborg . On May 5, 2009 he made his professional debut in a game in the Superliga , Denmark's top division, when he won the 3-2 win on Matchday 29 of the 2008/09 season against AC Horsens in the 90th minute for Winston Reid was substituted on. It was also his only use this season; FC Midtjylland finished fourth at the end of the season.

In early 2010, Sviatchenko rose to the club's professional squad and by the end of 2015 had a total of 111 games in the Danish Superliga , in which he scored ten goals. In 2010 and 2011 he was with the team in the final of the Danish Cup competition , but was not used in both lost finals. From March 2011 to March 2012, he was out due to a torn cruciate ligament. In the 2014/15 season he was the Danish champion with FC Midtjylland. In qualifying for the 2015/16 Champions League , he was eliminated with the team and then finished second in the group stage of the 2015/16 Europa League .

In January 2016 he moved to the Scottish first division club Celtic Glasgow , with whom he signed a contract that ran until the summer of 2020. With Celtic he became Scottish champions in 2016 and 2017 and won the league cup in 2016/17 and 2017/18 .

In January 2018 he was loaned back to FC Midtjylland until the end of the 2017/18 season. With the club he won the second Danish championship after 2015 at the end of the season by four points ahead of Brøndby IF . In May 2018 he was firmly signed by Midtjylland.

National team

Sviatchenko came to two appearances for the Danish U18 national team , six for the U19 , three for the U20 and eight for the U21 .

He would have been eligible to play for the Ukrainian national team, but on March 22, 2015, he accepted an invitation from coach Morten Olsen to join the Danish senior team for the friendly against the United States and France . Three days later he made his debut in the 3-2 win at Århus Sportpark in Aarhus against the United States in the starting line-up. On October 11, 2015, he scored his first international goal in the 90th minute in a 2-1 defeat in the friendly against France at the National Stadium in Copenhagen .
