In 2015/16 the Scottish Premiership was the third edition of the Scottish men's football division. The league was officially played as the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership . It was also the 119th edition of the top football division within the Scottish Football League in which the Scottish champions were determined. It began on August 1, 2015 and ended with the 38th matchday on May 15, 2016.
After the regular season, which was referred to as the 1st round and in which all teams compete against each other three times, the final 2nd round began, which was divided into two groups of the championship and relegation play-offs . The eleventh placed in the Premiership then competed in relegation games , in which the second, third and fourth placed of the championship took part. The bottom of the table was relegated directly.
As a climber from last year's championship , Heart of Midlothian took part in the Premiership . As the defending champion, Celtic Glasgow started the season, which also played the opening game of the new season in Paradise against Ross County .
The championship won for the 47th time in the club's history Celtic Glasgow. It was also the fifth title in a row. The decisive factor was a 3-2 home win on matchday 36 against FC Aberdeen . Celtic qualified as champions for the following Champions League season 2016/17 . Second and third placed Aberdeen FC and Heart of Midlothian qualified for the 2016/17 UEFA Europa League . On matchday 35, Dundee United was relegated to the championship with a 2-1 defeat in the Dundee Derby against FC Dundee . After twenty years of excellence, the traditional club was relegated to the second division for the second time.
