← Premier League 2001/02
The Scottish Premier League was played for the fifth time in 2002/03 . It was also the 106th edition of the top soccer division within the Scottish Football League in which the Scottish champions were determined. In the 2002/03 season, 12 clubs competed against each other in a total of 38 matchdays. Each team played once at home and away against every other team in the first round. After that, the league was divided into two halves, in which the teams play against each other again. In the event of a tie, the goal difference counted .
The Glasgow Rangers won the Scottish Championship for the 50th time in the club's history. The Rangers qualified as champions for the 2003/04 Champions League season . Runner-up Celtic Glasgow also played in the Champions League because of Scotland's improved position in the UEFA five-year standings . The defeated cup finalists , FC Dundee , and the third-placed Heart of Midlothian qualified for the UEFA Cup . This season there was no relegation to the First Division because the actual promoted, FC Falkirk, did not get a license. Celtic Glasgow's Henrik Larsson was the top scorer with 28 goals .
