Lorenzo Amoruso (born June 28, 1971 in Bari ) is a former Italian football player .
Career
Youth and the beginning in Italy
In his youth Amoruso only played in the neighborhood of his hometown in Palese but later went to AS Bari , where he was later able to advance into the first team. At that time the club played in the second-rate series B . On September 18, 1988 Amoruso made his professional debut in the home game against AC Parma , when he was substituted on in the 54th minute by coach Gaetano Salvemini for Maurizio Laureri ; the game ended in a 2-1 home win. In the 1989/90 season he also won the Mitropacup with the team .
At the age of 21, Amoruso was loaned to AC Mantua for one season . In the following season he was awarded again, this time to Vis Pesaro . In the 1993/94 season he ran almost continuously for Bari. After this season he rose with his team to Serie A , the 1994/95 season should come up for him with a similar number of appearances.
He then moved to Fiorentina on a free transfer within the league , for which he played a total of 54 times. In the 1995/96 season he won the Coppa Italia with the Fiorentina under Claudio Ranieri and later the Italian Super Cup .
Move to Great Britain
For the 1997/98 season , Lorenzo Amoruso moved to the Glasgow Rangers in Scotland for the equivalent of around 6 million euros , with whom he became champions for the first time in the following season in the newly founded Scottish Premier League under coach Dick Advocaat . From the 1998/99 season he was regularly used in the UEFA Cup and from the 1999/2000 season in the Champions League . In some games of the latter competition, he even wore the captain's armband . The 1999/2000 and 2002/03 seasons Amoruso won the Scottish Championship with his team. He also won the Scottish Cup and League Cup three times with the Rangers . In the 2001/02 season he was named Scotland's Footballer of the Year by the Premier League players . After the last championship season, Amoruso moved to the Premier League for the Blackburn Rovers for the equivalent of around 2.1 million euros . But here he was only used sporadically in the following two seasons, mostly at the end of the game and at the end of the season. After the 2005/06 season , his contract was not renewed by the club.
In February 2008 Amoruso joined the SS Cosmos from San Marino , for which he was active until the end of the current season . Then he ended his playing career.
