The Scottish Football League Division One was played for the 69th time in 1968/69 . It was also the 72nd edition of the top soccer division within the Scottish Football League in which the Scottish champions were determined. It began on September 7, 1968 and ended on May 1, 1969. In the 1968/69 season, 18 clubs competed against each other in a total of 34 match days. Each team played once at home and away against every other team. The 2-point rule applied . In the event of a tie, the goal quotient counted .

The championship won for the 24th time in the club's history Celtic Glasgow . The Bhoys qualified as champions for the following European Cup of National Champions season 1969/70 . Celtic reached the final against Feijenoord Rotterdam which was lost 1: 2 after extra time. Third, fourth and fifth placed Dunfermline Athletic , FC Kilmarnock and Dundee United qualified for the Exhibition Cities Cup . As a defeated cup finalist , the Glasgow Rangers qualified for the European Cup Winners' Cup . The Falkirk FC and FC Arbroath promoted to the Division Two from. The top scorer was Dundee United's Kenny Cameron with 26 goals .
