The Scottish Football League Division One was played for the 28th time in 1920/21 . It was also the 31st edition of the highest soccer division within the Scottish Football League in which the Scottish champions were determined. It began on August 16, 1920 and ended on April 30, 1921. In the 1920/21 season, 22 clubs competed against each other in a total of 42 match days. Each team played once at home and away against every other team. The 2-point rule applied . In the event of a tie, the clubs (with the same number of points) were placed tied.
The championship won for the eleventh time in the club's history, the Glasgow Rangers . The top scorer was Hughie Ferguson of FC Motherwell with 43 goals . Despite the end of the war in 1919, to the surprise of the clubs, the league decided not to revive Division Two . A new decision was made at the end of this season when the league wanted to block the Central League's increasing competition through its integration. As a result, the teams of the Central League became members of the Scottish Football League and were also able to successfully qualify for automatic promotion and relegation, according to placement, goal difference in the event of a tie.
