The Scottish Football League Premier Division was played for the 17th time in 1991/92 . It was also the 95th edition of a top soccer division within the Scottish Football League in which the Scottish champions were determined. In the 1991/92 season, 12 clubs competed against each other in a total of 44 days. Each team played twice at home and twice against every other team. The two-point rule was introduced. In the event of a tie, the goal difference counted .
The Glasgow Rangers won the Scottish Championship for the 42nd time in the club's history. The Gers qualified as champions for the newly founded 1992/93 Champions League season . As a defeated cup finalist , Airdrieonians FC qualified for the European Cup Winners' Cup . The second and third placed Heart of Midlothian and Celtic Glasgow , as well as the league cup winner Hibernian Edinburgh qualified for the UEFA Cup .
The FC St. Mirren and Dunfermline Athletic got into the end of the season First Division from. Glasgow Rangers' Ally McCoist was the top scorer with 34 goals .
