The Easter Road is the football stadium of Hibernian in the district of Leith in Edinburgh . The football stadium currently holds 20,250 spectators. The Hibernian fans affectionately call their venue “The Leith San Siro ”.
history
After Sir Tom Farmer took over in 1991, the venue underwent major changes to two new stands, the Famous Five (North) Stand and the South Stand (formerly Dunbar End), which were built behind both gates in 1995. The West Stand is the largest stand and is similar to the North Stand and the South Stand . It was built in 2001. The attendance record stands at 65,860, set on January 2, 1950 at the Edinburgh Derby of the Hibs against Heart of Midlothian .
In 2005 Sir Elton John played the first ever music concert on Easter Road .
The newly built East Stand was opened in August 2010 . This increased the total capacity to 20,250 places.
Scottish national football team matches on Easter Road
Since 1998, five international matches for the men's national football team have taken place at Easter Road Stadium. South Korea and Ghana met in a preparatory game for the 2006 World Cup . The Scottish U21 national team also plays games in the stadium.
