history

For 65 years, Muirton Park in the north of the city was the home of St. Johnstone until the ASDA trading group bought the area along with the adjacent ice rink in 1986 and built a supermarket in its place. The club moved to the newly built stadium on the western edge of the city. The property was donated by a local farmer, Bruce McDiarmid.

Soccer

McDiarmid Park is considered one of the first of the new generation of stadiums. It opened on August 19, 1989 with a Saintees victory over Clydebank. The stadium area has space for 1000 cars and 100 buses. An adjacent training field with artificial turf is available for the team, as is conference rooms in the main grandstand to the west. The stadium consists of four covered individual stands, three of which are the same size, while the main stand on the west side is a little larger. In the northeast corner there is an electronic scoreboard, in front of which the official team photo is taken.

The South Stand is called the Ormond Stand , named after Willie Ormond , St. Johnstone's most successful coach to date.
