The Scottish Football League Division One was played for the 48th time in 1947/48 . It was also the 51st edition of the highest soccer division within the Scottish Football League in which the Scottish champions were determined. It began on August 13, 1947 and ended on May 3, 1948. In the 1947/48 season, 16 clubs competed against each other in a total of 30 game days. Each team played once at home and away against every other team. The 2-point rule applied . In the event of a tie, the goal quotient counted .
The championship won for the second time in the club's history Hibernian Edinburgh . The Airdrieonians FC and FC Queen's Park relegated to Division Two at the end of the season . The top scorer was Archie Aikman from FC Falkirk with 20 goals .
