The Scottish Football League Division One was played for the 70th time in 1969/70 . It was also the 73rd edition of the top soccer division within the Scottish Football League in which the Scottish champions were determined. It began on August 30, 1969 and ended on April 22, 1970. In the 1969/70 season, 18 clubs competed against each other in a total of 34 matchdays. Each team played once at home and away against every other team. The 2-point rule applied . In the event of a tie, the goal quotient counted .
The championship won for the 25th time in the club's history Celtic Glasgow . The Bhoys qualified as champions for the following European Cup season-1970/71 . The runner-up, as well as the third, fifth and seventh placed, Glasgow Rangers , Hibernian Edinburgh , Dundee United and FC Kilmarnock qualified for the Exhibition Cities Cup . As a cup winner , FC Aberdeen qualified for the European Cup Winners' Cup . The Raith Rovers and Partick Thistle were relegated to Division Two . Colin Stein of the Glasgow Rangers was the top scorer with 24 goals .
