The Scottish Football League Division One was played for the 44th time in 1936/37 . It was also the 47th edition of the highest soccer division within the Scottish Football League in which the Scottish champions were determined. It began on August 8, 1936 and ended on April 30, 1937. In the 1936/37 season, 20 clubs competed against each other in a total of 38 game days. Each team played once at home and away against every other team. The 2-point rule applied . In the event of a tie, the goal quotient counted .
The championship was won by the Glasgow Rangers for the 23rd time in their club history . Dunfermline Athletic and the Albion Rovers relegated to Division Two at the end of the season . The top scorer was David Wilson of Hamilton Academical with 34 goals .
