The Scottish Football League Division One was played for the 58th time in 1957/58 . It was also the 61st edition of the highest soccer division within the Scottish Football League in which the Scottish champions were determined. It began on September 7, 1957 and ended on May 10, 1958. In the 1957/58 season, 18 clubs competed against each other in a total of 34 matchdays. Each team played once at home and away against every other team. The 2-point rule applied . In the event of a tie, the goal quotient counted .
The championship won for the fourth time in the club's Heart of Midlothian history . The Hearts qualified as champions for the following European Champion Clubs' Cup season-1958/59 . The FC East Fife and FC Queen's Park got into the Division Two from. The top scorers were Jimmy Wardhaugh and his teammate Jimmy Murray from Airdrieonians FC with 28 goals each .
