← Premier League 2010/11
The Scottish Premier League was played for the 14th time in 2011/12 . It was also the 115th edition of the highest soccer division within the Scottish Football League in which the Scottish champions were determined. In the 2011/12 season, 12 clubs competed against each other in a total of 38 matchdays. Each team played once at home and away against every other team in the first round. After that, the league was divided into two halves, in which the teams play against each other again. In the event of a tie, the goal difference counted .
The Celtic Glasgow won the Scottish Championship for the 43rd time in the club's history. The Bhoys qualified as champions for the 2012/13 Champions League season . The season was overshadowed by the bankruptcy of the Glasgow Rangers . Despite the runner-up, the Rangers were excluded from the Scottish Premier League and incorporated into the Scottish Third Division in the following season after admission to the Scottish Football League . That's why the third-placed FC Motherwell played in the qualifying round of the Champions League because of the improved position of Scotland in the UEFA five-year standings . The Cup Winners Heart of Midlothian , and the fourth-placed Dundee United and sixth-placed FC St. Johnstone qualified for the Europa League . Dunfermline Athletic was relegated to the First Division at the end of the season . Celtic Glasgow's Gary Hooper was the top scorer with 24 goals .

1 The
Glasgow Rangers were deducted 10 points for filing for bankruptcy. Since the club was still in administration until March 31, 2012, it was not granted a license to participate in the European Cup. In addition, the club could not find an agreement with its creditors and was accordingly put into liquidation and reassigned to the fourth division.
