Gary Mackay-Steven (born August 31, 1990 in Thurso ) is a Scottish football player who plays for New York City FC .
Career
society
Gary Mackay-Steven was born in Thurso in the Scottish Highlands in 1990 . After the young Mackay-Steven started playing football at Thurso FC in his hometown , he moved to Ross County, next to Inverness Caledonian Thistle, the most famous club from the Highlands. After a successful trial session at the beginning of 2007, Mackay-Steven joined the youth team at Liverpool FC at the age of 17 . The two years he was to spend at the Anfield Road club were marked by numerous injuries. From 2009 to 2011 he was active in the Youth Academy of Fulham FC .
Mackay-Steven returned to Scotland in January 2011. He found a club with third division Airdrieonians FC that signed him. For this, the flank player completed 19 league games and 2 FA Cup games by the end of the 2010/11 season .
In the summer of 2011, Mackay-Steven moved to the Scottish first division club Dundee United . With this he reached, among other things, the cup final 2013/14 which was lost against FC St. Johnstone .
In January 2015 it was announced that he would move to Celtic Glasgow at the end of the 2014/15 season , but this transfer was completed in February. On February 11, Mackay-Steven made his debut in the city derby at Partick Thistle . In the 3-0 away win, he scored the opening goal for the Bhoys in the first minute of the game . After three championships and two league cup wins, Mackay-Steven moved to Aberdeen FC in July 2017 . After two years in Aberdeen, he moved to the USA in 2019 for New York City FC .

Gary Mackay-Steven made his debut for the Scottish national football team in November 2013 when he came on as a substitute for Craig Conway after 84 minutes in the friendly against the USA .
