The Scottish League Cup was played for the 69th time in 2014/15 . The Scottish League Cup, which was played among participants in the Premiership , Championship , League One and League Two , began on August 2, 2014 and ended with the final on March 15, 2015 in Hampden Park in Glasgow. If no winner was found in a duel after 90 minutes plus extra time, the game was decided on penalties . As the defending champion, FC Aberdeen started the competition, which last year won the final against Inverness Caledonian Thistle on penalties. In the semifinals there was not only the Old Firm derby between Celtic Glasgow and the Rangers , but also the New Firm between the defending champion from Aberdeen and Dundee United . Celtic and United prevailed in their respective derbies . The two clubs faced each other on March 15, 2015, only for the second time since 1998 in a final game for the Scottish League Cup. For Celtic it was also the 30th league cup final overall, for United the seventh. Celtic celebrated their 15th League Cup title since their last win in 2009 by beating United 2-0 in the final with goals from Kris Commons and James Forrest . For the club from Dundee it was the fifth consecutive defeat in a final of the League Cup. The winner's trophy was presented to Captain Scott Brown by Edelfan Rod Stewart .
