The Scottish League Cup was played for the 10th time in 1955/56 . The Scottish Football League Cup, which was played among the participants of the Scottish Football League , began on August 13, 1955 and ended with the final on October 22, 1955 in Hampden Park in Glasgow . Heart of Midlothian started as defending champion in the competition that prevailed against FC Motherwell in the previous year's final . In this year's final of the hit FC Aberdeen on FC St Mirren . The Dons from Aberdeen reached the final in the League Cup for the second time after 1947 . It was the Saints' first participation in the final. The Dons won the final 2-1. In the Scottish Championship , the Dons were the defending champions behind the Glasgow Rangers runner-up, the Saints were fifteenth.
