The Scottish League Cup was played for the 14th time in 1959/60 . The Scottish Football League Cup, which was played among the participants of the Scottish Football League , began on August 8, 1959 and ended with the final on October 24, 1959 in Hampden Park in Glasgow . Heart of Midlothian started as defending champion in the competition that prevailed against Partick Thistle in the previous year's final . In this year's final, met Hearts on Third Lanark . The Hearts reached the League Cup final for the third time after 1955 and 1959 . The Thirds from Glasgow reached the final for the first time. The Hearts won the title for the third time with a 2-1 final win. In the same season , the Hearts became Scottish champions for the fourth time in the club's history . The thirds were twelfth in the table.
