Forfar Athletic (officially: Forfar Athletic Football Club ) is a Scottish football club from Forfar . The club was founded in 1885 and joined the Scottish Football League and the newly formed Division Two in 1921 . The club had its most successful period in the 1970s and especially the 1980s. First, the Loons reached the semi-finals in the league cup for the first time in 1977/78 , which was the greatest success in the club's history. In the 1981/82 season Forfar reached the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup . In 1986 they missed promotion to the Premier Division by just one point .
The following years were less successful: In the 2016/17 season Forfar played in the Scottish League Two , the fourth-highest division in Scottish football, which is also the lowest professional league from which it is not possible to relegate. About the promotion playoffs he returned to the Scottish League One .
