The Scottish League Two was held for the fourth time in 2016/17 as the fourth highest football division of men in Scotland . The league was officially played as Ladbrokes Scottish League Two . The league was one of the four leagues in the Scottish Football League after the Premiership , Championship and League One . Which was followed League Two of the regional leagues, the Highland and Lowland Football League . The season was managed by the Scottish Football Association and began on August 6, 2016. The season ended with the 36th matchday on May 6, 2017.
In the 2016/17 season, ten clubs competed against each other in a total of 36 match days. Each team plays twice at home and twice against every other team. Relegated from last year's League One came Forfar Athletic and the failed in the relegation FC Cowdenbeath in the League Two . As the winner of the relegation, Edinburgh City came from the Lowland Football League .
The FC Arbroath secured the championship and promotion to the third division. Forfar Athletic , Annan Athletic and FC Montrose reached the promotion relegation . Forfar secured promotion to League One. The FC Cowdenbeath appeared in the relegation relegation . The club was able to prevent relegation. The top scorer was Shane Sutherland of Elgin City with 18 goals .

Relegation
Participants in the relegation games are the tenth place in this year's League Two, as well as the two champions from the Highland and Lowland Football League , FC East Kilbride and Buckie Thistle . The winner of the first round plays in the second round against the League Two club for a place for the following season 2017/18 .
