Annan Athletic (officially: Annan Athletic Football Club ) is a Scottish football club from Annan , located in Dumfries and Galloway .
The club currently plays in Scottish League Two , the fourth highest division in Scotland. The association was founded in 2008 after the bankruptcy of Gretna in the Scottish league system selected.
Annan, in the extreme south of Scotland, is back in the league after more than 80 years. In the 1920s, the local club Solway Star had played in the 3rd division, which was dissolved in 1926.
A peculiarity in the club history of Annan Athletic is that the club belonged to the Carlisle and District League for a quarter of a century (1952 to 1977) and thus played in England. After returning to Scottish football, Athletic joined the South of Scotland Football League , later the East of Scotland Football League , from which they were immediately promoted. A reserve team remained in the South of Scotland Football League , where they will also play in the 2018/19 season.
