East of Scotland Football League

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The East of Scotland Football League (sponsor name: Central Taxis EOS League ) is next to the South of Scotland Football League one of the two lowest, sixth-class, leagues in the Scottish professional league system. Both are in the hierarchy below the, also semi-professional, Lowland Football League . In contrast to the fifth-rate Lowland Football League , the fifth-rate Highland Football League has no substructure because of the lower population density of northern Scotland. The East of Scotland Football League clubs come from Edinburgh , the Lothians and the Scottish Borders .

The league, which was founded in 1923, was not linked to the professional league system until the league reform in 2013. Since the 2014/15 season, a sporting promotion to a higher league (through relegation) has been possible. From the 2018/19 season, after taking over teams from the previous Junior Football League, 39 teams will play in three parallel seasons ( conferences ). In a final round they determine the league champion who qualifies for the promotion games.

Member clubs are eligible to play in the qualifying round of the Scottish FA Cup .
