The FC Cowdenbeath (officially: Cowdenbeath Football Club ) is a Scottish football club from Cowdenbeath . The club plays in the Scottish League Two , the fourth highest division in Scottish football.

Club history

Cowdenbeath FC was founded in 1881 from the two clubs Cowdenbeath Rangers and Cowdenbeath Thistle and is considered the oldest club in the Fife region. The club joined the Scottish League in 1905 , was twice champions of the 2nd division in 1914 and 1915, but was not allowed to advance due to the selection system at the time. In 1924 , Cowdenbeath made it to the top division as second in the league, where he immediately reached fifth place . Relegation followed after ten years, followed by renewed promotion in 1939 , but the outbreak of World War II interrupted any further play. After the game began after the war, Cowdenbeath was, controversially, transferred back to the 2nd division. It was not until 1970 that they were promoted to the top league again, but Cowdenbeath rose straight away.

After the end of the 2005/06 season , the club rose again as champions in the third division. It was the first league title in 67 years. The 2008 descent was followed by a direct return to the Second Division a year later. In the 2009/10 season Cowdenbeath succeeded as a climber of the march through to the First Division . The club last played in the Scottish second division from 2012 to 2015 . This was followed by two descents in a row.
