The Scottish Football League Third Division was held under this name for the twelfth time in 2005/06 . It was also the twelfth edition of the Third Division as only fourth highest Scottish league . In the fourth-highest division of men's football in Scotland , 10 clubs competed against each other in a total of 36 match days in the 2005/06 season. Each team played four times against each other. In the event of a tie, the goal difference counted before the direct comparison.

The championship won the FC Cowdenbeath , which secured the promotion and participation in the Second Division season 2006/07 . On the ascent play-offs which took Berwick Rangers , the FC Stenhousemuir and FC Arbroath part. None of these teams could prevail in the relegation, so they remained in the third division. Scorer with 20 goals was Martin Johnston of Elgin City .
