The Scottish Football League Second Division was held in 2005/06 for the 31st time after the introduction of the Premier League as the third highest Scottish league . In addition, it was the thirty-first event as the third highest division of men's football in Scotland under the name Second Division . In the 2005/06 season 10 clubs competed against each other in a total of 36 match days. Each team played four times against each other team. In the event of a tie, the goal difference counted .
The championship was won by FC Gretna , which also secured participation in the 2006/07 First Division season . On the ascent play-offs took Greenock Morton , the FC Peterhead and Partick Thistle in part, the fourth place which was able to prevail and next to the FC Clyde rise. Alloa Athletic successfully fought in the relegation for the remaining in the Second Division . FC Dumbarton had to relegate to the Third Division . The top scorer with 18 goals was Kenneth Deuchar from FC Gretna.

Relegation
Participants in the relegation games were Alloa Athletic from this year's Second Division, as well as the three teams from the Third Division , Berwick Rangers , FC Stenhousemuir and FC Arbroath . The first round winners played in the final round for a place for the following 2006/07 Scottish Second Division season .
