The Scottish Football League First Division was held for the 30th time in 2004/05 as only the second highest Scottish league under this name. In the second-highest division of men’s football in Scotland , 10 clubs competed against each other in a total of 36 matchdays in the 2004/05 season. Each team played four times against each other team. In the event of a tie, the goal difference counted .

The championship was won by FC Falkirk , which at the same time secured participation in the 2005/06 Premier League season . Partick Thistle and the Raith Rovers had to relegate to the Second Division . The top scorer with 17 goals was Darryl Duffy from FC Falkirk.
