The Scottish Football League First Division was held for the 38th time in 2012/13 . After the introduction of the Premier Division and Premier League as only the second highest Scottish league . It was also the last event as the second highest division of men's football in Scotland under the name First Division . From the following season, the 2nd league was played as a championship . The final season was run by the Scottish Football Association and started in August 2012 and ended in May 2013.

In the 2012/13 season, ten clubs competed against each other in a total of 36 match days. Each team played twice at home and twice against every other team. In the event of a tie, the direct comparison counted. Partick Thistle won the championship , which at the same time secured participation in the 2013/14 Premiership season . In the also newly formed Scottish League One had to dismount Dunfermline Athletic after relegation and Airdrie United .

Relegation

Participants in the relegation games were Dunfermline Athletic from this year's First Division, as well as the three teams from the Second Division , Forfar Athletic , Brechin City and Alloa Athletic . The winners of the first round played in the last round for a place for the following Scottish Championship season 2013/14 .
