John "Jackie" McNamara, Jr. (born October 24, 1973 in Glasgow ) is a Scottish football player and coach.

McNamara played at Dunfermline Athletic as the attacking right winger. In 1995 the famous Glasgow club Celtic bought it for 600,000 pounds.

In 1996 he won the title of Scottish PFA Young Player of the Year, the best young player in the Scottish Premier League . Under Martin O'Neill he was no longer an unconditional regular player, but remained an important player for the Hoops .

In 2004 McNamara was voted Player of the Year by journalists. In 2005 he left the club for a free transfer after rejecting a contract offer as insufficient.

After strong performances with the Wolves , McNamara seriously injured his knee at the home game against Leicester City in September 2005. Only in the penultimate game against Brighton & Hove Albion he could be used again. In 2007 McNamara moved to FC Aberdeen and from there only less than ten months later to FC Falkirk . In mid-February 2010, the club then loaned him to the second division Partick Thistle for a month . There he also signed a new one-year contract before the start of the 2010/11 season.

After his playing career, Jackie McNamara was named Partick Thistle's coach in May 2011 . In January 2013, he moved to league rivals Dundee United . In September 2015, he was released in Dundee.

McNamara drove with Scotland to the 1998 World Cup , where the Bravehearts, however, failed in the preliminary round.
