Shunsuke Nakamura ( Japanese 中 村 俊 輔 Nakamura Shunsuke ; born June 24, 1978 in Yokohama ) is a Japanese football player . He is known for his excellent free kicks and his ability to dribble.
Club career
Nakamura began his professional career in the J. League with the Yokohama F. Marinos , where he played until 2002. He then moved to Italian club Reggina Calcio , who was in the Serie A had risen. During the three years in Reggina, Nakamura often had to deal with injuries, and the club could not break away from the lower regions of the table.
In 2005 Nakamura then moved to the Scottish club Celtic Glasgow after he had been courted by the Bundesliga clubs Borussia Mönchengladbach and Borussia Dortmund, among others . Nakamura was very popular with fans of Celtic Glasgow, among other things because of his excellent free-kick technique. In 2007 he was named Celtic Player of the Year and Scotland's Footballer of the Year . With Celtic he won the Scottish Championship three times , the Scottish League Cup twice and the Scottish Cup once .
After his contract with Celtic expired at the end of the 2008/09 season, Nakamura moved to Espanyol Barcelona on a free transfer . In February 2010 he returned to his native Japan and moved to the Yokohama Marinos . After 190 league appearances in the Marinos jersey, he switched to league competitor Júbilo Iwata for the 2017 season . After two years and 45 league games, Nakamura moved to second division Yokohama FC in summer 2019 .
National team
Nakamura played his first international match on February 13, 2000 against Singapore . In 2002 he experienced his greatest disappointment when the then national coach Philippe Troussier did not nominate him for the 2002 World Cup in his own country. In 2006 he took part in the World Cup in Germany . With the Japanese national team Nakamura was in 2000 and 2004 , the AFC Asian Cup win; In 2004 he was also voted the most valuable player of the tournament.
In 2010 Nakamura was nominated for the World Cup in South Africa , where he was eliminated with Japan in the round of 16 against Paraguay on penalties. Nakamura was only used as a substitute in the group game against the Netherlands . After leaving, he resigned from the national team
