Robert White "Bobby" Murdoch (* 17th August 1944 in Rutherglen , † 15. May 2001 in Glasgow ) was a Scottish footballer who for Celtic Glasgow played and part of the Lisbon Lions was -Mannschaft, the 1967 European Champion Clubs' Cup won . Together with Bertie Auld , he formed the outstanding central midfield of Celtic.

During his time at Celtic he won the Scottish Premier League eight times, the Scottish Cup five times and the Scottish League Cup five times as well as the European Cup in 1967. He also played in the 1970 European Cup final against Feyenoord Rotterdam , but Celtic lost 2 :1. His last years at Celtic were mainly characterized by injury problems, despite which he remained an important part of the team.

In 1973 he moved from Celtic to Middlesbrough FC , becoming Jack Charlton's first purchase. He also taught the young Graeme Souness how he played. Before ending his playing career in 1976, he played 125 times for Middlesbrough. After the end of his career as an active player, he became the coach of the youth team.

In 1981 and 1982 he coached the first team Middlesbroughs, but was released shortly after relegation to the Second Division.

Murdoch tried his hand at running a pub, but got into debt. In his last years he worked at Celtic Park , where he was responsible for looking after the players.

Murdoch died at the age of 56 from complications from a stroke in Glasgow's Victoria Infirmary.
