James Forrest (born July 7, 1991 in Prestwick ) is a Scottish football player . The midfielder has played for Celtic Glasgow in the Scottish Premiership since 2009 and for the Scottish national football team since 2011 . His brother Alan Forrest is also a professional footballer.
Club career
James Forrest was born in Prestwick on the southwest coast of Scotland. At the age of twelve Forrest went to Celtic Glasgow and was involved in all age groups. He won the 2008 Glasgow Cup for youth teams in the final against Celtic's arch rivals, the Glasgow Rangers . On August 30th, 2009 he signed his first professional contract with Celtic. The midfielder made his league debut on the last day of the 2009/10 season against FC Motherwell , when he was substituted on in the 81st minute when Celtic was 2-0 for Aiden McGeady . In the 87th minute, Forrest also scored his first goal for the "Bhoys". In the European Cup, Forrest made his debut in the Champions League in the second leg of the third qualifying round against Sporting Braga at Celtic Park . After being eliminated by Braga, Celtic took part in the Emirates Cup in London . In the game against Olympique Lyon , Forrest was on the field from the start. At the end of the tournament he was named the best youth player of the entire tournament.
After several strong games in the early stages of the 2010/11 season - including the game against Heart of Midlothian , in which he scored the opening goal - the 19-year-old was voted the best youth player in the Scottish Premier League of August. In January 2011 Forrest signed a new contract that ran until 2016. He extended this for three more years in August 2016.
Scottish national team
On May 29, 2011 James Forrest made his debut for the Scottish national team in the 0-1 away defeat in Ireland. On August 10, 2011, he played his first home game in a 2-1 win over Denmark.
