Stephen Welsh (born January 19, 2000 in Coatbridge ) is a Scottish football player who is under contract with Celtic Glasgow .

Career

Stephen Welsh has played in the Celtic Youth Academy since 2008 . From August 2017 he came to work for the U20 of Celtic in the Challenge Cup . In August 2019, the 19-year-old center-back was loaned out to Scottish second division club Greenock Morton until the end of the season . In the first half of the second division season 2019/20 he came as a regular player to 15 games. The loan was ended early in January 2020. On matchday 24 of the Premiership 2019/20 , Welsh made his debut in the first team of the Bhoys. In the game at Hamilton Academical which was won 4-1, he was in the starting line-up of coach Neil Lennon .

National team

Stephen Welsh has represented the Scottish Football Association at international matches since 2016 . In August 2016 he made his debut for the U17 national team against Serbia . With the U17 he took part in the European Championship for this age group in Croatia a year later . He was used in all three games in the preliminary round against Hungary , France and the Faroe Islands . By May 2017, he had completed a total of eight international matches for this junior selection.

From September 2017 he started playing in the Scottish U19 . He made his debut there in a 3-3 draw against Ukraine .
