Vasilios Barkas ( Greek Βασίλειος Μπάρκας , born May 30, 1994 in Zetten , Netherlands ) is a Greek football goalkeeper who is under contract with Celtic Glasgow in the Scottish Premiership .

Vasilios Barkas was born to a Greek and a Dutch mother in Zetten , in the municipality of Overbetuwe . During his childhood he went to Greece to play for Atromitos Athens . Until 2013, he worked in the various youth teams of the capital city club. After sitting on the bench as a substitute goalkeeper a few times from 2013 onwards, he made his Super League debut against PAOK Saloniki on May 20, 2015 , when he came on for Andrey Gorbunov . From February 2016, Barkas was the goalkeeper at Atromitos for the last 12 match days of the 2015/16 season .

In June 2016, Barkos moved to AEK Athens . On November 27, 2016, he made his debut for his new club in a 3-0 win over AO Platanias . Then he remained in the further course of the season goalkeeper in front of Giannis Anestis . In July 2017, Barkos broke the thumb of his right hand and was out for three months. From November 2017 he was back in the first team. At AEK, the goalkeeper position was routed in the 2017/18 season . Barkos played five league games, Giannis Anestis ten and Panagiotis Tsintotas fifteen. This season AEK won the 12th championship title in Greece after fourteen years. In June 2018, Barkas extended his contract in Athens until 2022. During the entire 2018/19 season, Barkas remained without conceding 22 goals in 41 games.

In July 2020, he moved to Celtic Glasgow in the Scottish Premiership for a transfer fee of £ 4.5 million .

National team

Vasilios Barkas played six times for the U19s of Greece between 2012 and 2013 . As of 2015, he made eight appearances in the U21 . On June 4, 2016, Michael Skibbe appointed him to the squad of the Greek national team for the first time after Orestis Karnezis was injured. The newly appointed Barkas was not used in the international match against Australia . On March 16, 2018, he was invited to join the Hellenes' national team for the friendlies against Switzerland and Egypt . In the second game against Egypt he finally made his debut for the senior team when he came on for Andreas Gianniotis in the second half . He stayed clean in the 1-0 victory.
