The PAE Atromitos Athens ( Greek Ατρόμητος ) is a Greek football club from Peristeri , which was established in 1923. Since 2009 the club has been playing in the first Greek league again .

history

The club was founded in 1923 when some students from Athens decided to start a football team. In the same year the former well-known soccer player Vaggelis Stamatis could be won as a manager. Because of its notoriety, Atromitos was accepted into the Greek Football League in 1924. At that time, the club played in particular on the sports complex of Panellinios Athens . In its first season, the club was promptly third and in 1928 the Athens city championship was won. This qualified the club for the first time for the highest Greek league. In 1932 Atromitos moved to the city of Peristeri , as it would not have been possible to build up his own fan base in the immediate vicinity of Panathinaikos Athens .

Until 1972, the club then played in the second division before being promoted back to the first division under coach Savva Papazoulou . However, this was too difficult and the direct relegation followed. In 1975 Atromitos rose again and this time made it to ninth place in the table. Despite some good signings, the club was relegated to lower leagues again in 1981 and even played in the third division for many years. It was not until May 2002 that they made it back to the second division. In 2005 the club merged with FC Chalkidona and has played in the Super League ever since . 2006/07 the season ended with a good 8th place in the table. Both in 2012 and 2013 they qualified fourth for the European Cup.

In 2011, the club reached the cup final, but lost 3-0 to local rivals AEK Athens . The game was accompanied by riots. In 2012 they moved into the final of the Cup again, but this time lost to Olympiacos .
