Georgios Donis ( Greek Γιώργος Δώνης , born October 29, 1969 in Frankfurt am Main , Germany ) is a coach and former Greek soccer player . He is the father of Christos and Anastasios Donis .

Career

Georgios Donis began his football career with Paulos Melas before moving to the youth department of Panathinaikos Athens , then Athinaikos Athens and FC Panargiakos. In 1990 Donis signed his first professional contract with PAS Ioannina, where he made 52 appearances and seven goals in the following two seasons. In 1992 Donis moved again to Panathinaikos (106 appearances, 30 goals), where he should have his most successful time as a player. In the following four years he won two championships (1995, 1996), three cup wins (1993, 1994, 1995) and made it to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League with Panathinaikos in 1996 . After these successes, foreign clubs became aware of Doris, and so he moved to the Blackburn Rovers . This made him the first Greek player to play in the Premier League . Donis stayed with Blackburn until January 1998; he came on 22 missions there. His next positions were AEK Athens , Sheffield United and Huddersfield Town , before ending his active career with AEK in the summer of 2001.

Georgios Donis, who acted in the position of the striker, played between 1993 and 1999 a total of 24 times for the Greek national football team , where he was able to score five goals.

After his career as a player, Donis took over as coach in 2002 for the then fourth division club Ilisiakos Athens. With Ilisiakos he managed to move up to the second division within just two years. In 2004 he moved to league competitor AE Larisa ; Donis led this traditional club in the first year in the first Greek league. His team even qualified for the UEFA Intertoto Cup straight away . In 2007 Donis also won the trophy with Larisa.
