American College of Radiology

The American College of Radiology ( ACR ) is a not-for-profit association of medical professionals founded in 1923, consisting of radiologists , radiation specialists, and physicians. The college is based in Reston, Virginia , USA . Other offices exist in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania and Washington, DC The journal The Journal of the American College of Radiology ( JACR ) is published by the College.

The association is the certification authority for mammography in the US. The Mammography Quality Standards Act of 1992 requires that anyone performing mammography in the United States be able to demonstrate certification.

ACR also certifies devices for magnetic resonance imaging and issues corresponding guidelines. Since standards do not exist everywhere outside the USA, the guidelines of the ACR are also applied in other countries.

The association currently has over 35,000 members. President is John A. Patti.
