André Boisclair
André Boisclair (born April 14, 1966 in Montréal , Canada ) is a Canadian politician. From 2005 to 2007 he was chairman of the Parti Québécois , the most important social democratic party in the province of Québec .
Between January 1996 and March 2003 he served in the government of Québec Prime Minister Lucien Bouchard as Minister for Citizenship and Immigration Affairs and Minister for Social Solidarity and in the government of Bernard Landry as Minister for the Environment. On November 15, 2005, he won the election as chairman of the Parti Québécois and became the first party chairman in North America who confessed to be homosexual and whose party is represented in a parliament. On May 8, 2007, he resigned from the party leadership. François Gendron was named as his successor.
