The PAE Aris Thessaloniki ( Greek Π.Α.Ε. Άρης ) also known as Aris Saloniki and in the English-speaking world as Aris FC , is a Greek football club based in Thessaloniki . The parent club AS Aris is one of the leading in Greece in several sports.
history
The club was founded on March 25, 1914 in Thessaloniki , the shirt colors are yellow and black. The name "Aris" has its origin in the Greek god of war Ares , who is also shown in the logo. The club won the Greek championship three times (most recently in 1946) and the national cup once.
Aris is supported by several fan clubs (including Super3, Ierolohites). With over 20 departments across Greece and thousands of members, Super3 is one of the largest fan clubs in Greece. The biggest rivalry is with local competitor PAOK Thessaloniki . Since 2009, the "Aris Members Society" has held almost 30 percent of the capital in Aris FC, which is why the fans have great co-determination rights.
Aris rose to the end of the 2013/14 season as bottom of the Super League. In the following season, due to major financial problems, the club did not start in the second-rate Football League , but in the third-rate Gamma Ethniki . For the 2018/19 season he returned to the Super League.

European Cup balance sheet
In the European cup competitions, Aris has held a streak of more than 40 years without a home game. A 1: 2 home defeat in 1968 against Újpest Budapest in the Messestädte-Pokal was followed by a 1-1 draw against Cagliari Calcio in the Messestädte-Pokal 1969/70 . Since then, only 26 European Cup games have been played in their own stadium (as of March 2020), as the qualification for the European level was often not achieved, but among the opponents were well-known clubs such as AS Roma , Manchester City , Atlético Madrid and Chelsea FC .
