Juan Ramón Rocha (born March 8, 1954 in Santo Tomé ) is a former Argentine football player and current coach.
Juan Ramon Rocha, who played in the central attacking midfield, began his professional career in 1972 with the traditional Argentine club Newell's Old Boys , with whom he won the Argentine championship in 1974 . In 1979 he moved to league rivals Boca Juniors for one season before signing a contract with Panathinaikos Athens in 1980 . Rocha, nicknamed by the fans Indians got and is considered one of the best foreigners to this day, has been active ever in the Greek league, made in his move to Greece for a scandal when he his contract with the Greek name Boublis signed . He was accused of forgery of documents and Panathinaikos was threatened with relegation to the second division. After all lawsuits were dropped, Rocha came to Panathinaikos to 1989 on 227 first division appearances and won two Greek championships (1984, 1985) and five times the national cup (1982, 1984, 1986, 1988, 1989).
After his playing career Rocha took over the coaching position at the Greek clubs Ilisiakos Athens, Kalamata and Skoda Xanthi , before he coached Panathinaikos from 1994 to 1996 and 1999. Outstanding for him was the 1995/96 season, when he made it to the semi-finals of the UEFA Champions League with Panathinaikos and narrowly failed at Ajax Amsterdam . He then trained in Greece for Skoda Xanthi (2001) and Ilsiakos Athens (2006). Then Rocha coached the Cypriot club Olympiacos Nicosia . From 2008 he worked for Panathinaikos Athens as a scout and youth coach. From November 14, 2012 to January 8, 2013, he finally took over as coach of the men's team. After a season at the Polish club Ruch Chorzów (2017/2018), he will take over the coaching position at Thesprotos Igoumenitsas from the 2019/2020 season .
In addition to his career as a club player, Juan Ramon Rocha was also active for the Argentine national soccer team , where he made a total of three appearances.
