Frank Blunstone (born October 17, 1934 in Crewe ) is a former English football player and football coach.

life and career

Blunstone's great strength was his ability to run, which is why his former soccer colleague Jimmy Greaves called him a man with a heart the size of a cabbage. Blunstone signed a professional contract with his hometown club Crewe Alexandra in 1951 . In 1953 he moved to Chelsea for a fee of £ 7,500 . He made his debut in February 1953 against Tottenham Hotspur . With Chelsea he was English champion in 1955. After two broken legs, the winger had to end his playing career in 1964. Internationally, the Englishman played five times for his home country . He made his debut in 1954 against Wales . After the end of his career as a player, he worked as a coach for various classes at Chelsea FC until 1969. In 1969 he became the head coach of Brentford FC . He remained head coach for four years before taking over the coaching chair of the same club again at short notice in 1984. He was also assistant coach to Tommy Docherty at Manchester United . He is currently back in his home town of Crewe .
